Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to become an international star were unsuccessful. The singer has been signed by 2 distinct record companies, but dropped prior to releasing any music. In 2007 however Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted little attention due to its jolly playful title track. I kissed a Girl, a confident tribute to her fascination with sexuality set against a hard-edged electronic-pop beat, was a big impact a few months later. A few critics accused it of promoting homosexual relationships however others suggested that the song's raunchy lyrics were intended to attract male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl, an enthralling combination of sexual satire with a refined melody helped I Kissed a Girl to become a hit number one in a variety of countries, and to drive sales for her album, One of the Boys. The sharp, bouncy second single was also extremely popular. The album that Perry composed in large part sold over three million copies.
